German film crew documents the Mississippi River - video here

The City of Red Wing achieved some notoriety in October of last year when a German film crew chose Red Wing as a featured community in its high definition documentary about the Mississippi River from Lake Itasca to New Orleans.  What started out as a simple photo opportunity to highlight the American Queen turned into a neat little vignette about Red Wing which was shown on German Public TV in January of 2013.  Paul Drotos was the ad hoc spokesperson who volunteered his time for the shooting.  The intro and subtitles were provided by Channel 6 and the film clip will be shown on Channel 6. …

Portion of South Park Street Closed Monday, July 1, 2013

The City of Red Wing Public Works Department will be closing a portion of South Park Street beginning Monday, July 1st for work on a water main valve.  The area affected is the portion of South Park Street between 18th and 20th Streets.   This closure is expected to last 1 day, and South Park Street will be reopened as soon as the placement of the water main valve and pavement is completed.  Access will be limited in this area.  Traffic control will be in place.  Drivers are encouraged to avoid this area.   City crews appreciate the cooperation and patience of neighbors, driv…

Bituminous Street Overlay Project Update

Work began on the construction of bituminous milling, bituminous reclamation, bituminous pavement overlay and other appurtenant construction on several streets and parking lots in Red Wing.  These streets will have flaggers, lane closures in both directions, and traffic interruptions at various stages of construction.  A more detailed schedule for the week of July 1st is as follows: Monday, July 1st Salvage Reclamation - Continue hauling salvaged reclaimed materials from Potter Street Parking Lot to Red Fox Drive/Westwood Hills Drive.  Begin hauling reclaimed materials from Public Works…

Officer Burbank Named to Statewide DWI Enforcer All-Star Team

Officer Jeff Burbank, of the Red Wing Police Department, was named to the 2013 Minnesota Department of Public Safety (DPS) Office of Traffic Safety DWI Enforcer All-Star team for his efforts to prevent alcohol-related crashes and resulting tragedies. Officer Burbank arrested 47 drunk drivers in 2012. The All-Stars are sponsored by AAA Minneapolis. Officer Burbank, a four year veteran of the agency, was named among 34 law enforcement representatives and prosecutors from the Twin Cities and Greater Minnesota.
