Road Closed to thru Traffic Old Highway 19 Bridge Construction to Begin November 5th

(October 30, 2012, Red Wing, Minn.) – Beginning on November 5, 2012, Minnowa Construction, Inc. of Harmony, Minnesota will be removing and replacing the bridge that is currently closed at the north end of Old Highway 19 (east of Marco Auto). The Red Wing Advisory Planning Commission postponed a site visit of the Xcel Energy Ash Landfill because of wet conditions at the site. The site visit has been rescheduled for 5:00 PM on Tuesday October 30, 2012 at the site of the Xcel Energy Ash Landfill located off of Bench Street in Red Wing, MN. We will meet at the garage building on the site that is located at the end of the driveway across from the intersection of Bench Street with Featherstone Road. Postponement of Red Wing Advisory Planning Commission Site Visit

The site visit public meeting that was scheduled by the Red Wing Advisory Planning Commission to view the Xcel Energy Ash Landfill at 5:00 p.m. on October 25, 2012 has been POSTPONED and will be rescheduled for next week at a date and time to be announced. It has been determined that the site is too wet from recent rains to afford a good opportunity to view the area.

Burning Ban and Restrictions Lifted

Effective immediately, the burning ban and restrictions issued for Goodhue County have been lifted. Residents that had permits suspended because of the ban can now resume burning until their permit expires. Residents can now also apply for new burning permits. Red Wing Fire Department Responds to a Fire at the Solid Waste Campus

On October 20 at 9:21 p.m. the Red Wing Fire Department was dispatched to a fire alarm at the City of Red Wing Solid Waste Campus Waste to Energy facility. On arrival, crews found a large amount of refuse on fire on the tipping floor storage area. The first arriving engine utilized a high flow nozzle known as a "Blitz Fire Nozzle" to knock down the fire. Salvage and overhaul was challenging due to the large quantity of refuse involved. Burning Ban Status Update

The burning ban issued for Goodhue County has been changed to a county wide burning restriction. Burning by open permit is still not allowed unless a variance is granted by the MN DNR. Tree Planting Stepped Up in the Bush Street/Langsdorf Avenue Area

The urban forest in the Bush Street/Langsdorf Avenue neighborhood is getting an update.  In an effort to diversify the population of trees, the City is planting in vacant spaces along boulevards in the neighborhood which is located east of Hwy 58.  Thirty five (35) trees will be planted this fall and about 40 more in 2013.  Trees are a mix of tall growing species such as oak, linden, hackberry, maple and elm.  Shorter species will be planted near overhead power lines. Bush/Langsdorf is one of only a few neighborhoods in Red Wing that was planted with only one kind of boulevard tree. …

RED WING — Extra Click It or Ticket seat belt patrols take to the roads Oct. 12–26 statewide in Minnesota. Red Wing is among nearly 400 Minnesota agencies increasing patrols to encourage motorists to buckle up.
