The City of Red Wing Public Works Department will be closing Levee Road between Broad and Jackson Streets as well as Ikata Drive beginning Friday morning. These roads will remain closed until the water recedes and roads are safe for travel.The boat ramp at Colvill Park will be closed today. Areas of Colvill Park will be restricted as needed on Friday and Saturday, with the possibility of complete closure on Sunday morning. Red Wing Waste Campus and Elder Justice Network have partnered in a one day Confidential Document Disposal Day to help educate about financial exploitation. The Confidential Document Disposal Day will be:Saturday, June 16th from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Red Wing Waste Campus. Residents and businesses will be allowed to bring in one "Bankers Box" or standard file storage box (11" x 12" x 15") for free disposal (additional volume will be charged at the standard rate).There will also be an informational booth about the Elder Justice Network.For more information regarding this event, please click here
The City of Red Utilities Department will be closing Siewert St. at Woodland Drive beginning on Wednesday May 30th at 7:00 AM. Woodland Dr. will remain open. The Utility Department will be replacing a broken water valve. There will be multiple residents out of water for a period of two to three hours midday while the valve is being replaced. Since 2001, the annual Amos Owen Award has recognized an individual in the Red Wing community for his/her work in promoting and ensuring others' human rights. The award's namesake was a Prairie Island Mdewakanton elder and spiritual leader who worked tirelessly to preserve Dakota language and culture. On May 19th the Red Wing Heritage Preservation Commission is hosting an open house from 11:30 am to 1:30 pm at the Betcher Memorial Chapel in Oakwood Cemetery to celebrate Oakwood Cemetery's listing on the National Register of Historic Places (February 2012). The open house is open to the public and will include a presentation at noon by Daniel Hoisington of Hoisington Preservation Consultants regarding Oakwood's history and the National Register of Historic Places listing.
