Red Wing Fire Department Responds To A Vehicle Fire

(10/31/2011, Red Wing, Minn.) - On October 29th at 1:34pm, the Red Wing Fire Department received a call reporting a vehicle fire in the Tyler road South Mall parking lot near Great Clips. Upon arrival, the mini-vans engine compartment was completely engulfed with fire, and was spreading to the passenger compartment of the vehicle.  Firefighters extinguished the fire in about five minutes with CAFS (compressed air foam system).  No injuries to emergency responders or anyone else resulted.  The vehicle which was owned by Lucy Halvorson of Red Wing was a total loss.Red Wing Fire Department Engine …

Red Wing Issues $1,835,000 in General Obligation Bonds to Finance Public Infrastructure Renewal Projects

On Monday, October 24, 2011 the City Council authorized the sale and award of $1,835,000 in General Obligation bonds to assist in the financing of $5,548,314 in public infrastructure renewal projects including the East 5th Street Bridge replacement project, the 2011 Street Reconstruction projects and the Fire Station roof replacement project. The financing for the projects include $3,000,000 in state bridge bonding funds and other locally sourced funds. Portion of South Park Street Closed Beginning October 26, 2011

(October 25, 2011, Red Wing, Minn.) - The City of Red Wing Public Works Department will be closing a portion of South Park Street on Wednesday, October 26th for water main repairs.  The area affected is the intersection of South Park and 13th Streets.  South Park Street will also be closed from 12th to 13th Streets.  This closure is expected to last one day.  When water main repairs are completed, there will be limited access on South Park Street until the pavement is repaired.  Traffic control will be in place. Silica Sand Moratorium

On October 10, 2011, the Red Wing City Council unanimously adopted an interim ordinance to establish a moratorium on any new Frac Sand Mining Operation within the City of Red Wing corporate limits. This ordinance establishes a moratorium on such use for a period of one year. The City Planning Commission and Sustainability Commission will study this issue over the next year and determine if the City should adopt additional regulations to protect the health and welfare of the citizens of Red Wing. Third & Plum Street Intersection Closed October 17th for Repairs

Third and Plum Street Pavement Repair - On Monday October 17th, the City of Red Wing Public Works department and MnDot will be working together to repair the damaged pavement at the intersection of 3rd and Plum Streets.
