West 6th Street closed for repair

Sturgeon Lake Road closure on September 19

On Sept 19th at 8:00 a.m. Sturgeon Lake Road will be closed at the CP Rail crossing for heavy maintenance. This will include removal and re-installation of the rubber crossing pads, re-leveling of the tracks, replacement of ballast and repaving the approaches. It is expected to last at least until Thursday morning and possibly into Friday, September 23, 2011.This will be a full road closure with no possible access at the crossing.  XCEL Energy and the City are meeting to iron out the legalities of utilizing the NSP Private road as the detour to gain access to Prairie Island for all traffic, loc…

Hiawatha Hills Ground Storage Reservoir to be Repainted

Hiawatha Hills Ground Storage Reservoir will be renovated over the next 2-3 months. The renovation will include miscellaneous structure repairs, complete removal of the existing coating and repainting. The existing exterior coating is a lead based paint, and the contractor will be completely encapsulating the tank to capture paint and blasting residue during sandblasting operations. Red Wing / Ikata Student Cultural Exchange 2011

At 3:00 PM on August 4th, eleven smiling faces were greeted at the airport by members of the Red Wing Sister Cities Commission and host family members. This group was the student delegation from our sister city in Ikata, Japan. The delegation of four boys and four girls was lead by chaperone/teachers Masaya Takegami and Reiko Suemitsu. Also accompanying the group was Edina, MN native, Jessamine Jensen, who for the last three years has been the Coordinator of International Relations for the city of Ikata. Portions of Highway 63 Bridge Closed August 16, 2011

For Immediate Release (August 10, 2011,Red Wing, Minn.) - Carlson/McCain Company has been contracted by MnDOT to inspect the Highway 63 Bridge going over the Mississippi river.  On Monday August 15, crews will be inspecting the underside of the bridge and no traffic delays are expected.  On Tuesday, August 16 between the hours of 8:00 am and 4:00 pm, there will be single lane traffic only as the top side of the bridge is being inspected.  Flaggers will be controlling traffic during this time.  Drivers are encouraged to avoid this area.Crews appreciate the cooperation and patience of neighb…

City Council Takes Step Back on Canadian Pacific Railway Conditional Use Permit and Variance Approval

The Red Wing City Council, on Monday, August 8, 2011, unanimously voted to reexamine a Conditional Use Permit (CUP) and Variance approval it made in July to allow Canadian Pacific Railway to construct a new office/storage building west of Broad Street, immediately south of the railroad lines. On August 4, 2011, Mayor Dennis Egan vetoed Resolution No. 6309, which was unanimously adopted by the City Council on July 25, 2011, approving the CUP and Variance.
