Council President Schultz testifies on regional biosolids facility

Bob Stark, Deputy Director Pubic WorksMichael Schultz, Council President,  Bob Stark, Deputy Director Public Works and Marshall Hallock, Finance Director testified in front of the Senate Economic Development and Housing Budget Committee on Tuesday, January 25, 2010 in support of an appropriations request the City has submitted for funding for a regional biosolids drying facility.  The City's appropriations request for $5,000,000 is included in the Senate's initial version of the 2010 Bonding Bill.  The Committee will recommend projects for inclusion in the Senate's final version of the Bill.&nb…

Hiawatha Broadband Communications not awarded stimulus funds

Laura Blair, Information Technology Director The City of Red Wing was informed on Monday, January 25, 2010 that Hiawatha Broadband Communications did not receive stimulus dollars requested to build a fiber optic network.  The application was for a $20 million project that would serve both Lake City, Red Wing and the surrounding townships.  Myron White, Executive Director of the Red Wing Port Authority commented "One of the strategies of the City's fiber to the home initiative is to make Red Wing more attractive to entrepreneurs and to incubate business." Red Wing Fire Department Responds to Equipment Fire

On 1.20.2010 at 1:29 PM, the Red Wing Fire Department received a call reporting an equipmentfire at the Prairie Island Nuclear Generating Plant.   Firefighter/paramedics were on the scene approximately 17 minutes after receiving the call. Actions taken by the on-site fire brigade extinguished the fire prior to arrival. The fire re-ignited a short time later and was extinguished through the combined efforts of firefighters from the Red Wing Fire Department and the on-site fire brigade.   The fire occurred when an engine component on a large diesel generator failed during routine testing, ca…

Red Wing Fire Department Responds to Structure Fire at 3512 Kosec Drive

On January 20, 2010 at 12:26 AM, the Red Wing Fire Department received a call reporting a structure fire at 3512 Kosec Drive.     Firefighter/paramedics were on the scene within 9 minutes of receiving the call. On arrival the house was occupied and filled with light smoke. Occupants were escorted from the residence as firefighters began extinguishing the fire. The fire was extinguished approximately 5 minutes after arrival. There were no injuries to occupants or emergency responders.  The residence is owned by Shelly and Denise Simanski. Red Wing Fire Department Responds to Structure Fire at 1754 Edoka Street

On January 15, 2010 at 8:42 pm, the Red Wing Fire Department received a call reporting a structure fire at 1754 Edoka Street.     Firefighter/paramedics were on the scene within 13 minutes of receiving the call. The residence was fully involved at the time of arrival. Extreme fire conditions prohibited an interior fire attack and search of the building. Defensive firefighting tactics were employed to contain the fire to the structure of origin.
