The Public Works Department provides management and support services for the Integrated Solid Waste Management Campus. This Budget is divided into four main areas; Revenues, Waste Incineration Expenses, Ash Disposal and Administration.
The Incineration section of this budget represents the expenses needed to combust waste, provide steam to S B Foot, meet all MPCA and EPA pollution control requirements, management of recycling commodities, construction and demolition, industrial, residential and commercial waste generated in the City of Red Wing and surrounding communities in Goodhue County and Wabasha County.
The Ash Landfill section of the budget represents the expenses needed to operate all aspects of and active landfill and approved procedures to meet all MPCA standards, including placement of ash, covering of ash on site, leachate control and closure costs.
This facility can take all burnable waste (household trash, carpet, padding, clothing, bedding, pillows, thin plastics, dirty cardboard, etc), non-burnable waste (ceramic, tile, treated wood, panelling, insulation, sheet rock, plaster, heavy plastic, toys, vinyl siding, shingles, glass, hot tubs, etc), scrap metal (steel siding, metal chairs, metal doors, light fixtures, tools, lawn powers, etc), concrete (clean brick, asphalt, and concrete without rebar), upholstered furniture (couches, chairs, mattresses, boxsprings, and loveseats), electronics (TV's, computers, items listed below), appliances (microwave, refreigerator, freezer, stove, washer, dryer, etc), and wood (all types). There are fees for disposal of all types of waste.
This facility is open to all; you do not need to be a city resident to dispose of waste. Those using the facility will be required to sort their loads into the proper containers at the facility.
We can not take hazardous waste, which includes flourescent lightbulbs (any kind) , waste oil, paint, etc. Goodhue County is responsible for the collection of Hazardous Waste (385-3109).

The Goodhe County Recycling Center is located off of Hwy 61, across from the Red Wing Shoe factory.

**CFL's CAN NOT be disposed of in your regular trash as they contain a small amount of Mercury. The items should be taken to a Household Hazardous Waste Collection site or they can be recycled at the Goodhue County Recycling Center on Hwy 61, Red Wing.
Other items that may be hazardous in your home include:
Warning labels on some household chemicals tell you not to taste or touch the product, or expose it to heat or flame, depending on its chemical properties. If a product has one or a number of hazardous properties or says it is corrosive, flammable, explosive, reactive, poisonous or toxic it is most likely hazardous waste.
