Help Choose Red Wing’s Representatives

Red Wing residents are encouraged to vote in the upcoming November 2 General Election:

First and Second Wards

Dean Hove | 4149 Highway 61 | 388-1072
hove

Dean Hove, elected in 2002, said, "I quickly earned a reputation as a City Council member willing to base my decisions on direct input from citizens. That strength, plus my unwavering support for preserving Red Wing's riverfront, helped me win a second term in 2006." Hove stated, "Red Wing has lost significant revenue during my time in office, but I refuse to support tax increases to make up the shortfall - spending was pared down instead. The average tax increase these past seven years has been just 1.5 percent. Fiscal discipline has been imposed and we are now seeing the rewards in the form of new jobs and an increased interest in economic investment."

Hove is a lifelong Red Wing resident. He and wife Teresa have three grown children and two grandchildren. Hove served in the Minnesota National Guard for 10 years. He is the owner of Hove Metals in Red Wing.

Sachen is concerned about the challenges Red Wing faces with further reductions of state aid and a decline in tax receipts which calls for a fiscally conservative approach to ensure the city lives within its means and for a new look at the city's operations.

Sachen said, "I believe in working with all avenues to create an attractive environment for economic development, which in turn, will promote more and better job opportunities in Red Wing and look forward to improving transparency in our local government."

I am constantly looking for new economic opportunity for Red Wing. Public safety has been my number one concern. I want to maintain our excellent quality of life well into the future."

Election Sign Regulation

State statutes regulate that all noncommercial signs of any size may be posted in any number from 46 days before the state primary in a state general election year until ten days following the state general election.  The city of Red Wing City Code allows for removal of election signs seven days after an election.  Our interpretation is that election signs are allowed to remain until seven days after the general election.

The signs are not permitted on boulevards or rights-of-way in the city and all signs must be set back a distance from all property lines equal to the installed height of the sign. In order to comply with the requirements for sign installation, the general guideline is that signs should not be any closer than 2 feet to the outside edge of the sidewalk or no closer than 15 feet to the back of the curb. If unsure of the right-of-way location, please contact Public Works Director Rick Moskwa at 385-3674 or Engineering Director Ron Rosenthal at 385-3626. City staff will remove signs placed in public rights-of-way.
