The Buildings and Grounds Division is responsible for the community's parks, shelters, playgrounds, flower baskets, boulevard trees, cemetereis, government buildings and other various seasonal activities and events. Click on the links below to learn more about these services.
Shawn Blaney is the Deputy Director of Public Works, Buildings and Grounds Division. After graduating from Dunwoody Institute in 1995, he worked in the Electrical trade for various contractors serving the majority of his apprenticeship in his home town of Red Wing. After being on the road for many years, he was hired by the City of Red Wing as the Master Electrician on December 13th, 2004. In 2009 Shawn was promoted to Operations Foreman for the Buildings & Grounds Division. In 2013, he was promoted to Superintendent of Buildings & Grounds, then to Deputy Director in 2014. He now oversees the maintenance and operation of ALL facilities, parks and cemeteries as well as all city-owned street lights. In Shawn's spare time, his long list of hobbies include; spending time with his family, woodworking, sugaring (maple syrup making) and anything else that involves working with his hands.
