Last week, Red Wing’s EV fast charger got a visit from some real out-of-towners. E&E News reporters Jeffrey Tomich and Peter Behr stopped in Red Wing on week four of a 6,000-mile journey across the country in an electric vehicle for their Electric Road Trip.
The city’s EV fast charger was installed last year through the efforts of multiple organizations, including the Red Wing Sustainability Commission, Red Wing Area Chamber of Commerce, and the City of Red Wing, along with several local businesses who pay for the electricity used by the charger.
The Electric Road Trip is taking a look at the significance of the switch from gas to electric vehicles and how it has and will affect the American economy and daily life. Red Wing is one of the few cities in the more rural southern Minnesota region to have a dedicated EV charger. The usage data shows that, like the E&E News reporters, the EV charger sees a lot of people stopping in Red Wing to charge up on their own, likely shorter, road trips.
