Ask the Chief

Q: We have a large motorhome and will be travelling through Red Wing, is there a location that we can park overnight in the downtown area?

A: Thank you for your question and being proactive to find out before arriving in town. The City of Red Wing regulates the parking of recreational camping vehicles and other over-sized vehicles on any street or right-of-ways in Chapter 9 of the City Code, Parking Regulations. Recreational camping vehicle is defined as a: Travel Trailer, Truck Camper, Motorhome, or Camping Trailer. These vehicles may not be parked for longer than six continuous hours and during this six hour time frame may not be utilized as living quarters. The vehicle must also be located within the markings of the parking space and shall not obstruct traffic flow of the street.

Commercial vehicles larger than three-quarter ton may not be parked in any parking space for longer than 20 minutes for the purpose of loading/unloading, when access from an alley or street signed to allow truck parking is not available. Detached semi-trailers may not be parked in on any City street, parking lots or ramps, unless the area is signed for that purpose. Semi-tractors and trailers are not permitted in any residentially-zoned area except for loading and unloading. When parking in a private parking lot, please check with the property owner to ensure your vehicle will not be towed and that your vehicle will not interfere with the normal flow of traffic.

If you have questions or a parking complaint, please contact the Red Wing Police Department at 651-385-3155.
