Green Wing Energy Challenge
Creating a sustainable future for Red Wing
To help Red Wing residents and business owners save energy and money while promoting renewable energy and energy efficiency across our whole community, we teamed up with Xcel Energy to develop an Energy Action Plan titled Green Wing. Xcel Energy’s Partners in Energy initiative was created to put a focus on our sustainability plans through energy conservation and renewable energy adoption. In the winter of 2015, a group of 15 Red Wing community members, along with the City of Red Wing, developed the plan with the support of Xcel Energy.
Two targeted focus areas for the energy action plan include:
- Residential households, and
- Small- to mid-size businesses
For residential households, the goal is to engage an additional 10% of local households to participate in an energy efficiency or renewable energy programs over the next two years. This equates to an additional 700 households above Red Wing’s baseline participation.
For businesses, the goal is to engage 100 small- to mid-size businesses in energy saving programs above Red Wing’s baseline participation (check out our goal thermometer at Mandy’s Coffee and Café).
Do you live in Red Wing? Are you a small to mid-size business owner? Then this plan’s for you. With just a few changes to your home or business, you can save money and energy. Xcel Energy and partners have numerous programs tailored to meet the needs of residents and businesses energy and money saving goals. If we all participate, together we will make Red Wing a greener, more energy efficient community.
